IM NOT SORRY

I’M NOT SORRY explores the tension between desire and shame, and the freedom that comes from choosing indulgence.

A bright red corral, inspired by hay bale feeders in grazing fields, becomes a metaphor for cyclical longing. Like a carousel, it suggests a futile chase, recalling animals circling endlessly for something just out of reach. This repetition reflects the desperation, frustration, and quiet humiliation often tied to wanting.

The work resists imposed ideas of shame and instead embraces desire as something to move through rather than suppress. Encircling panels of pixelated flowers and scattered “I LOVE U” fragments reveal themselves only through motion, asking the viewer to circle the piece and participate in its loop.

The corral becomes both a site of enticement and release, where judgment and allure coexist, and where allowing yourself to want feels like freedom.

The original piece held a haybale within the corral, that was a jacquard woven fabric that had spliced images of Madonna riding a mechanical bull during her song Human Nature- a song on refusing to apologize for her existence, through the erotic and the sexual, finding it to be a double standard to indulge in her sexuality and that these were all natural things. Utilizing this same mindset, but with the reframing of cows and cattle, Madonna Complex/IM NOT SORRY asks what is human nature, what is animalistic nature, and how can we blur the lines to find the satisfaction in being true to ourselves.
